Step Out of The Comfort Zone
The first competition for 2018 is today.
Last year, my English teacher asked me if I would like to join an English writing competition.
I agreed at the spot without thinking too much about it even though I knew I was not so favor of taking part in competitions. During these months of preparation, I spared no effort in order to strengthen my English writing. Doubtlessly, there were light and darkness when I was preparing for it.
For the light, I found some new methods for improving English writing like reading a wide range of books or articles was one of them. In addition, I felt a sense of achievement after practicing again and again. While the darkness was that I had had a phobia about attending competitions since I was little.
I still remember I was trembling and panicking about my first piano certification test when I was in grade 6. After that, I've been nervous about every competition since I know I might fail due to anxiety and panic. With an eye to pushing myself out of the handicap, I spend years adjusting the mindset and trying to become more positive. Until now, fortunately, the situation is turning better.
When I finally arrived at the competition venue, I was excited and anxious. (The latter was more actually!) I managed to stay calm and get over it. Few days later, the result turned out as I had expected. I did't win.
But I suddenly realized that it was essential to take part in competitions despite the fact that failures are inevitable. The benefits of stepping out of the comfort zone are it helps me to grow and pinpoint what I am passionate about. What's more, I get to realize that I can improve everything little by little if I stick to it. In short, the days I am uncomfortable are the days I learn the most.
